The Agreement was signed by President Yeong-Her Wang of NARLabs and President Narong Sirilertworakul of NSTDA under the witness of Dr. Franz Ming-Chih Cheng, Director of International Affairs Office, NARLabs and Dr. Lily Eurwilaichitr, Vice President for International Collaboration, NSTDA.

In following with the government’s dedicated promotion of the New Southbound policy, NARLabs President Yeong-Her Wang and Thailand’s National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) president Narong Sirilertworakul signed the NARLabs-NSTDA Joint Research Program Framework Agreement on November 1. This agreement will bring both parties to invest resources and supply personnel, working together to make innovations in technology commercialization, high-speed internet, precision agriculture, biomedicine, semiconductor sensors and space technology. By incentivizing technological innovation, exchange visits, the sharing of ideas and organizing conferences we hope to create yet another win-win relationship between Taiwan and Thailand under the New Southbound banner.

NSTDA, under the command of Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, administers the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) and the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC). The agency is tasked with technological innovation, research and development, nurturing talent, investing in new ventures and stimulating Thailand’s productivity.

In March of this year, NARLabs opened its Bangkok Office in the Thailand Science Park, while also signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NSTDA promoting bilateral collaboration. The recently signed research agreement is an actualization of the connections and cooperation promoted in this MoU. We hope that the deepening of academic, industrial and research ties between Taiwan and Thailand and the relationship built with NSTDA will give Thailand access to the expertise of all the NARLabs centers and lead to further cooperation with even more New Southbound countries.

Besides leading the NSTDA delegation to Taiwan, President Sirilertworakul took part in the Ministry of Science and Technology’s 2019 Global Science & Technology Leaders Forum and also paid a visit to NARLabs’ Taiwan Instrument Research Institute and the National Center for High-performance Computing accompanied by the Science and Technology Division, TECO in Hanoi, Vietnam Director Hsu Hui-Huang. Both Taiwan and Thailand look forward to enacting the vision of this agreement by building strong bonds and working together to bring about technological progress.
