TIRI-NARLabs Innovative Medical Device Accelerator Exhibits at Medical Fair Asia in Thailand

The biennial Medical Fair Thailand is a pilot medical trade fair directed at Thailand and the Southeast Asian region. This year’s edition commenced at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) on September 11, 2019. The three-day exhibition attracted guests from more than 60 countries, 1000 exhibitors, and 10,000 buyers and biomedical industry professionals.

The Taiwan delegation’s 120 members represented research and development institutes, government departments, academic institutions and commercial industries. These groups included the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau and Central Taiwan Science Park Bureau of Ministry of Science and Technology, Device Innovation Center of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan Instrument Research Institute of National Applied Research Laboratories, Metal Industries Research & Development Centre, Plastics Industry Development Center and Taiwan External Trade Development Council, as well as 52 medical manufacturers.

The Taiwan Instrument Research Institute (TIRI) exhibited the R&D achievements made by the NARLabs Innovative Medical Device Accelerator at Booth #K27 and #K29 in the showcase’s Start-Up Pack (K Sector). This garnered a lot of face-to-face interaction with important organizations and potential buyers from Thailand’s medical device industry, potentially strengthening future bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

It is worth mentioning that the organizer of the delegation also arranged the Taiwan Medical Equipment Trade Fair. This event was aimed at allowing Taiwanese medical manufacturers to release their products and share their knowledge, while staff from the Thai Medical Equipment Association (TAIMED), Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI), and potential buyers were invited to carry out one-on-one business matching. In addition, Ambassador Chen-Yuan Tung of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand was invited to attend the opening ceremony. The ambassador believes that the Thai medical sector has great investment potential, as long as Taiwanese firms familiarize themselves with the local market. This vision could be key to promoting Taiwan’s medical device industry and brand names, and positioning them on the world stage.
