International cooperation to create next-generation meteorological satellite constellation
FORMOSAT-7 is a meteorological satellite project conducted cooperatively by Taiwan and the United States. The spacecraft bus and the mission and scientific payloads provided by the United States were delivered to National Space Organization (NSPO). Currently, the spacecraft buses and payloads are being assembled and tested, and various tasks including ground system integration are being conducted.
The EU National Contact Point, Taiwan
The EU National Contact Point, Taiwan (NCP Taiwan) moved from the National Center for High-Performance Computing (NCHC) to NARLabs headquarters in 2014. Looking ahead to the future, not only will NCP Taiwan serve as a national program office, but will also act as a platform for international exchange and promotion, and coordinate participation in scientific research by elite personnel from industry, government, and academia. NCP Taiwan will assume responsibility for arrangement of joint projects with the EU, participation in domestic and foreign conferences, and the invitation of scientists to Taiwan to share their experience. NARLabs hopes that NCP Taiwan will quickly increase Taiwan's international visibility and attract research manpower to jointly participate in projects and promotional efforts.
Memorandum of understanding Signed between NARLabs and Its Partners
Enhancing the innovation capability of the NARLabs through transnational cooperation
To expand its international technology cooperation alliance, strengthen its marine science research capability, and reinforce the interaction between Taiwan and Japan, NARLabs signed a memorandum of understanding with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) in hope of accelerating marine technology innovation through transnational cooperation.
NARLabs signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea's National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST) to expand the cooperation facets between the two institutions. In addition to the National Nano Device Laboratories (NDL) and Science and Technology Policy Research and Information Center (STPI), which have already cooperated with NST, NARLabs also hopes that the National Center for High-performance Computing (NCHC), National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering(NCREE), and National Laboratory Animal Center (NLAC) will closely cooperate with NST for further cooperation beneficial to Taiwan and South Korea. In addition, the two parties promised to cohost a Taiwan–South Korea technology seminar in the near future.
International Training Program for Seismic Design of Structures
Enhancing international reputation through technology diplomacy
To assist countries in Asia-Pacific and Central and South America to improve their seismic design techniques, the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering have annually hosted the International Training Program for Seismic Design of Structures since 2002, thereby reinforcing the technology diplomacy of Taiwan. After the course was approved to become an official APEC event, participants actively signed up for the course. Therefore, this event has received the attention of various countries.
