NCREE's ISEE to be tested by European partners

On March 31, 2010, Professor Uwe Dorka led three other experts from the University of Kassel, Germany to visit the NARL's National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE). The visit was part of their review of up-to-date remote monitoring and networked structural testing that are being carried out at the NARL-NCREE, the George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) in the USA, and Hyogo Earthquake Engineering Research Center (E-Defense) in Japan.

The review is to serve as a foundation for designing a European facility for advanced seismic testing under the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). During the visit, the team exchanged views on various technical issues of shaking table testing, the NARL-NCREE's multi-axial testing system, networked simulation for earthquake engineering, etc. with the NARL-NCREE staff.

At the end of the discussion, the two sides agreed to conduct a collaborative networked structural testing by using the NARL-NCREE's Internet-based Simulation for Earthquake Engineering (ISEE) that employs both database and application protocol approaches within the next one and half years.
