The representatives of the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) shared Taiwan’s experience on disaster response at APEC workshop on damage assessment techniques in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from 3 to 6 August 2009. The workshop for key regional disaster response officials was to harmonize efforts across 21 of the Asia-Pacific region’s key economies. At the end of this workshop, participants have developed, for APEC economies’ consideration: 1) common language post-disaster damages assessment techniques and policies, including definition and scope of ‘post-disaster damage assessment’; 2) greater competencies and skills for the conduct of post-disaster economic analysis; and 3) best practice guidelines for the conduct of post-disaster damage assessments.
