Partnership to boost Clonezilla software prowess

To foster collaboration between the NARL's National Center for High-Performance Computing (NCHC) and Tokyo-ba

Under this memorandum, both parties will strive to advance  Clonezilla’s service quality geared towards the business sector. Moreover, Miracle Linux Co. will support the Clonezilla community in Japan, and the NARL-NCHC will provide advice and information for the Clonezilla community activities in Japan. This feat signifies a step forward in the internationalization of the NARL-NCHC's research accomplishments.

The Clonezilla software is developed by the NARL-NCHC. This free and open-source software comes as either a live CD (Clonezilla Live) or a server edition (Clonezilla SE) for disaster recovery, disk imaging and disk cloning.

With Clonezilla, the users can create an exact clone of almost any hard drive or partition. ba
DRBL (Diskless Remote Boot in Linux), Partclone and UDPcast, Clonezilla boasts high-performance cloning. This simplifies deployment and support for a multitude of systems, e.g., Windows, Linux, VMware, etc. Moreover, it can assist the users in easily setting up large-batch, centralized computer management systems that are stable, fast, and cost-saving.

Clonezilla SE is particularly suitable for enterprises or organizations with a large number of computers. It is able to restore a lot of computers in a short time frame. These advantages have attracted the interest of Miracle Linux Co., a leading company providing open source solutions and services in Japanese enterprise market, to partner with the NARL-NCHC.

Since its launching in 2003,  Clonezilla has over 5.5 million downloads from more than 60 countries across a wide spectrum of sectors – high performance computing community, corporate, educational institutions, research organizations, etc. And due to its impacts on performance excellence,  Clonezilla has received many awards and citations over the last few years. They include the Science & Technology Contribution Award from Taiwan's Executive Yuan in 2008, the top 50 best Linux apps 2011 in the UK-ba Linux Formatmagazine, the best free backup software of 2011 and 2012 respectively in PC Magazine, and the best disk backup and recovery application on Linux for 2012 in Lifehacker, a weblog about life hacks and software.
