Launching of Experimental Watersheds: The Real-time Monitoring and Estimation Technique for River Discharge

To record Taiwan's hydrological and geographical changes, the Taiwan Typhoon and Flood Research Institute (TTFRI) of National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs) and the Water Resources Agency (WRA) have collaborated to launch experimental watersheds in Taiwan.

After the Yilan River (宜蘭河) and Dianbao Creek  (典寶溪) experimental watersheds were built, more than 88 million sources were available for data collection. These measured data are helpful for government agencies to improve data quality, watershed management, and flood early warnings for disaster operations. In addition, these data are also beneficial to TTFRI for the development of flood early warning systems and disaster reduction technology in river basins.
