The NSPO director general elected into IAA

Jiun-Jih Miau, the director general of the NARL's National Space Organization (NSPO), and Yuei-An Liou, the director of the Center for Space and Remote Sensing Research of National Central University (NCU), were elected from Taiwan as corresponding members of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) in recognition of their outstanding service and achievement in astronautical and aeronautical research.

Their election into the IAA in 2009 was preceded by Wing-Huen Ip, professor of the NCU's Graduate Institute of Astronomy, in 2000, and Lou-Chuang Lee, the incumbent minister of National Science Council cum the NARL board chairperson, in 2007. Based on the IAA's by-laws, the corresponding members are eligible for life-long full membership after two years.

Dr. Miau's recent research activities include: development of a vortex flow meter with intelligent capabilities; aerodynamics of a missile body at high-angle-of-attack with lateral jet control; pico-satellite sub-system development and technical services; ABRI wind tunnel establishment and system integration; applications of MEMS sensors; and PSP/TSP techniques in wind tunnels. Prior to the recent one with the IAA, Dr. Miau has received many honors from within and outside Taiwan, including nominated as an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Established in Stockholm, Sweden on August 16, 1960, the IAA, an international community of about 1,200 experts in aeronautics and astronautics from 75 countries, is committed to expanding the frontiers of space. It is an independent non-govemental organization recognized by the United Nations in 1996. The IAA fosters the development of astronautics for peaceful purposes and works closely with the International Astronautical Federation, national and international space agencies
