Dr. Bou-Wen Lin took the helm as STPI's Director General

Among many qualified candidates, the Board of Directors and Supervisors of the National Applied Research Laboratories has selected and appointed Dr. Bou-Wen Lin as the Director General of the Science and Technology Policy Research and Information Center (STPI). The inauguration took place on June 15, 2009.

Before being appointed as STPI’s Director General, Dr. Lin was a professor of the College of Technology Management at National Tsing Hua University. Prior to that, he had served as an assistant professor in the Department of Business Administration of Yuan Ze University and an adjunct associate professor in the College of Management of National Taiwan University.

Dr. Lin received his BS in power mechanical engineering from National Tsing Hua University, and MS in applied mechanics and MBA in international entrepreneurship from National Taiwan University. Later he obtained his double doctoral degrees from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), New York, the USA in technology management in 1998 and decision sciences and engineering systems in 2000, respectively. Upon graduation from the RPI, Dr. Lin was awarded with the Del and Edith Karger Dissertation Prize in Management.

During his stint as a teacher and researcher in science and technology management, Dr. Lin has been invited by the National Science Council to participate in the formulation of various national science and technology policies, and the establishment of science parks. In this connection, he was instrumental in “The White Paper on Science and Technology: A Preliminary Study,” “Forum for Science and Technology Policy,” etc. In recognition of his achievements in research and service, Taiwan’s Chinese Management Association presented him a distinguished award in 2008.

Recently, Dr. Lin has been elected as one of the 50 top researchers in the world for innovation management by the International Association of Management of Technology (IAMOT). The IAMOT recognized Dr. Lin based on a quantitative analysis of his publication record in the top 10 refereed related jouals from 2003-2007. This exceptional achievement places Dr. Lin among the top one percent of all researchers in the field and rightly equips him as an inspiring leader for the STPI.

Soon after his inauguration, Dr. Lin signed a memorandum of understanding with the Healthcare & Science business of Thomson Reuters, one of the world's leading sources of intelligent information for science and technology, on June 22 to advance STPI’s international collaboration.
