A severe earthquake rated 7.8 shocked Wenchuan area in Sichuan, China on May 12th, 2008. The images of the most devastated areas had been timely acquired from FORMOSAT-2. NSPO promptly distributed the valuable images to agencies worldwide for humanity rescue. NSPO received acknowledgement with gratitude from the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications, Chinese Academy of Science, and other agencies from the United Nations and around the world.
