FORMOSAT-2 Makes Significant Contributions to Sichuan’s Quake Relief Efforts

The disastrous area image of Sichuan’s deadliest earthquake was clearly acquired by NSPO’s FORMOSAT-2, the only commercial satellite which can provide the disastrous area image to the related relief organizations worldwide every day. In comparison to the images acquired before the earthquake, FORMOSAT-2 contributes significantly to China’s relief efforts especially in continuous monitoring the “quake lakes” formed by the earthquake. NASA website posts Beichuan’s images by FORMOSAT-2 on its website and so does Google Earth platform. NHK Japan also collected the disastrous area images from Taiwan’s academic community. NSPO will continue to schedule Formosat-2 to monitor Sichuan’s severely disastrous area including Beichuan, Wenchuan, Moashien, Dochunyen, etc.. Up to June 1 NSPO has completed acquisition of 105 images and provided 947 pieces/time for prompt rescues.
