Formosat-2 monitored Myanmar damaged by Cyclone Nargis

Upon Cyclone Nargis’ serious devastation in Myanmar, NSPO immediately started programming Formosat-2 to monitor the disaster area and successfully acquired the image on May 7 which revealed Myanmar had been severely damaged and its terrain was significantly changed. The image has been provided to the relief organizations of the United Nations and the European Union for references. As Myanmar’s disastrous area is widespread, NSPO continued to schedule Formosat-2 to monitor the main quake affected area. Right after Sichuan’s deadliest earthquake, FORMOSAT-2 acquired the real-time image of Beichuan disastrous area on May 14 where the tremor caused serious landslides blocking the rivers to form huge lakes. NSPO continued to schedule Formosat-2 to monitor Sichuan’s disastrous area and provide the images and the analysis result to the international relief organizations through NCDR and Image Distributing Agencies as NTU, NTNU, NCU, and NCKU for prompt rescues.
